Thought on half-naked armor:
Those outfits historically were not designed with any strategic benefit in mind. They weren’t about being agile or not sweating in the sun.
Those armors were nothing but gratuitous costumes for theatre war. They had the appearance of armor, similar iconography to what the soldiers at the time wore.
But they were explicitly designed to show the body of the combatant, to allow the bodies to get easily cut and bruised and allow for bleeding to be instantly visible.
Keep that in mind, next time you feel like showing the belly of your fearless combatant. And think about what that sais about a fantasy universe if mainly the male warriors are allowed to wear full armor, while female warriors get the “gladiator” treatment.
